Lonestar Pond Building Approach
We carefully select a variety of boulders and gravel that not only enhance the visual appeal of your pond but also promote a thriving ecosystem by facilitating the establishment of healthy bacteria. These beneficial microbes play a crucial role in maintaining water quality and clarity. By achieving the ideal balance of healthy bacteria, fish, and aquatic plants, we can significantly reduce the monthly maintenance required for your koi pond, allowing it to flourish naturally and effortlessly.
Our approach ensures that your ecosystem pond is not only a stunning focal point in your yard but also a sustainable habitat that supports diverse wildlife, creating a vibrant and lively aquatic environment for years to come.

What Makes Lonestar Pondscapes Different
Not every pond builder in Dallas-Fort Worth builds ponds the same way. Here’s what sets us apart:
- Family owned and local. We’re based here in DFW, not a franchise or out-of-town crew.
- Ecosystem-first design. We build ponds that balance fish, plants, and bacteria, so you spend less time maintaining and more time enjoying.
- Built to last. We use quality materials, like Aquascape Pumps, precision pond liners, and biofiltration, so your pond holds up through Texas heat and weather.
- Support after installation. We offer ongoing pond maintenance and cleaning, so your pond stays healthy for years.
- Real experience with koi. We design ponds with fish health in mind, not just looks.
Frequently Asked Pond Questions
-
Do koi ponds need a lot of maintenance?
Not with our design. We build natural ecosystem ponds, where fish, plants, and good bacteria keep the water clean on their own. That means far less cleaning and fewer chemicals than a traditional pond.
-
Will a koi pond attract mosquitoes?
No. A properly built koi pond has moving water and fish that eat mosquito larvae, so it won’t become a breeding ground the way stagnant water does.
-
Can I have a koi pond in a small backyard?
Yes. We design small ponds that fit compact yards, side gardens, and even front yards, without overwhelming the space.
-
What areas do you serve?
We build and maintain koi ponds throughout Dallas-Fort Worth, including Frisco, Plano, McKinney, Prosper, Celina, Carrolton, Flower Mound, Lewisville, Denton, Keller, Arlington, Grand Prairie, Irving, Rockwall, Forney, Wylie, and DeSoto.
How We Build a Pond That Takes Care of Itself
Most ponds need constant chemicals and cleaning. Ours don’t, because we build them to work like a natural ecosystem. Plants, fish, and good bacteria all work together to keep the water clean and balanced. We choose rocks and gravel that do double duty — they look natural, and they give good bacteria a place to grow. Plants filter the water and soak up extra nutrients. Fish help keep algae under control. Together, they do most of the work, so you don’t have to.
The result: a pond that looks stunning and supports real wildlife, with far less maintenance than a traditional pond.

The 7 Parts of a Ecosystem Koi Pond
- 1. Pond Skimmer - Catches leaves and debris before they sink and rot, keeping your water clean.
- 2. BioFalls® Filter - A biological filter that uses good bacteria to clean your water naturally.
- 3. Pond Pump - Keeps water moving so it doesn't stagnate, and spreads nutrients evenly for fish and plants.
- 4. Piping - The plumbing that connects every part of your pond system.
- 5. Rocks & Gravel - Add a natural look, support good bacteria, and give fish places to hide.
- 6. Pond Liner & Underlayment - A barrier that keeps pond water in and soil out.
- 7. Pond Fish & Plants - Plants filter water and feed wildlife. Fish add nutrients and life to the pond.
